H.R.4201: Baby Box and Maternal Assistance Act of 2019
Overview
H.R. 4201 would create a grant program that would provide free prenatal, newborn, and postpartum care training to eligible individuals and one chosen partner. For people who undergo the training, the grant would also authorize doula and midwife services, as well as the distribution of a “Baby Box.”
A baby box is a package for expecting parents that provides resources that the child may need during the first months of life, such as diapers. Additionally, the structure itself would be made to serve as a sturdy and mobile sleeping space for infants.
The legislation would also provide funding for the training and recruitment of doulas from diverse backgrounds.
